Hurricane Preparedness Financial Checklist
5 Must Haves Checklist
Here are some items to keep safe to assure your Financial life is not disrupted:
- Identification - These primarily include driver's licenses (or state ID cards for non-drivers), insurance cards, Social Security cards, passports, birth and marriage certificates, and wills.
- Cash - The amount you should have available will depend on your ability to use ATM, debit and credit cards to get more cash or make purchases.
- Checks - With just a copy of a check or your checking account number, you can authorize an important payment by providing the recipient (for example, an insurance company) your checking account number over the phone.
- ATM, Debit and Credit Cards - These cards give you access to cash and the ability to make payments on outstanding bills. Don't assume that merchants and ATMs in the areas affected by a disaster will be immediately functioning as usual - that's why it's important to have other options available for getting cash and making payments.
- Safe Deposit Box Key - Only your key will get you into your safe deposit box, no matter how many forms of identification you have.
Financial Services Checklist
You can take steps today to make life a bit easier during an emergency. Here are a few ideas to consider:
- Direct Deposit - Having your paycheck and other payments transmitted directly into you account through direct deposit will give you better access to those funds because you don't have to deliver the deposit.
- Online Banking - With internet access, you can conduct your financial business without writing checks or physically traveling to the Credit Union. With Online Banking, you can view all of your accounts online, transfer funds between accounts, make loan payments, review statements, balance your checking account, and more!
- Online Bill Pay - This will enable you to quickly make scheduled payments - such as your phone bill, insurance premiums and loan payments-and avoid service interruptions.
- e-Statements - When you replace your printed statements with e-Statements, you can see your statement immediately online. e-Statements are stored up to save years on a secure website so you don't have to worry about filing or losing your paper statements.
- DOT (Dial on Teller) - Access your Credit Union account by an automated telephone system 24/7. Check your account balances, transfer funds, make check withdrawals and more at 800.999.4368.
- Service Centers and ATM Access - Access your Credit Union account at over 3,700 nationwide participating Service Center/Outlet locations; make a deposit, withdrawal, loan payment and more. Through the Dolphin ATM Network, many ATMs are surcharge free for Credit Union accounts.
